In Murshidabad, a Muslim majority area of West Bengal adjacent to Bangladesh, a large number of children who do not go to school are involved in illegal trafficking activity at the border, providing income for their family. SAVE is funding Murshidabad Samaj Kalyan Samity (MSKS) to run a child literacy centre to divert the children from this trafficking activity and improve their chances in life.

Calcutta Social Project,Vocational Training Centre – Kolkata – West Bengal Funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland (£6.500)
This project continues to develop well. The Centre now runs training in: Electrical training, Plumbing training, computer training, computer assembling, hardware repair, computer repair and maintenance, and repair of white goods.
The Centre is actively working towards sustainability and discussions are taking place with other similar organisations with a view to replicating the model we have helped develop.

In Delhi we are working with the NGO Nai Disha Educational and Cultural Society providing non-formal education to children from the labouring classes who have never been to school.

In Orissa we are considering a vocational project of embroidery work (Maa Ghara project) for abused women sheltered by Sanjeevani a well known and established organisation.
Maa Ghar is a project for Short stay Home and Rehabilitation for young girls involved in abuse and trafficking and help the distressed women to make them self-reliant .

In Patna, Bihar, for the last two years SAVE has been supporting two primary health care centres in slums (wards 5 & 11) with the help of the Centre for Health and Resource Management (CHARM) – a well known and respected NGO working in slums, looking after almost 16,000 inhabitants.

In South Kolkata - SAVE, in association with the Calcutta Social Project has been funding a Primary Health Care Centre for almost seven years in the Monohar Pukur slum, looking after 500 mothers and children.

In South Kolkata in collaboration with Snehamoyee Seva Kendra, a well known organisation, SAVE has been funding a primary health centre for two years in the Panditiya Road slums.

In Kolkata SAVE is supporting the Association for Social Health in India (ASHI), an all India organisation which provides homes for abused young women.
Since 1998 SAVE has been funding the Sevika (Auxiliary nurse) training programme for 6-10 of these young women to resettle them into society again. From last year we are also supporting training for some of these girls as ECG technicians and physiotherapists.
