FAQ

How are projects monitored?

Answer: We evaluate and monitor the projects through our appointed local monitor. We also visit the projects every year from the UK. Our monitor gives progress reports every 4 to 6 months and we secure annual reports and annual accounts from our partner organisations before we grant any further funding. This helps us to ensure that we fulfil our obligations under the rules and guidelines of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

How are projects chosen?

Answer: We always work with well known and well established local organisations and develop our projects as required and desired by the local people.

How do we raise funds?

Answer: For the first 10 years we relied on individual donations. For the last 5 years we have also secured funds from organisation such as: Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, Rotary, Soroptimist etc. We intend to expand our institutional funding to meet growing demand.

Why did we start?

Answer: Though India has progressed economically and socially since 1947 there are still enormous problems to overcome. Poverty, illiteracy, lack of health care, social exclusion are still rampant. Those of us who have been successful can not, and must not, remain indifferent to the suffering of the people that we have left behind.

Why South Asia?

Answer: Western NGO's are working for poor people all over the world. There is no reason why people from South Asia who have settled abroad and have become succesful can not work in all the SAARC countries. Poor people whereever they are need help. Help to poor people increases friendship and spreads the message of peace between contending and conflicting countries, particularly amongst the neighbours.

Why support SAVE?

Answer: It is an unique organisation as it is the only diaspora organisation that is trying to work in all the SAARC countries in South Asia. It is trying to engage all the South Asians, particularly the Indians who have settled abroad, to contribute to the charitable work amongst the lowest of th low in our society, in an institutional way.

Why should we bother?

Answer: Millions of us have settled abroad after being trained almost free by our mother country. WE have all become reasonably successful but we are giving, or have given, all our services and expertise only to our host countries. Morally we certainly can not remain indifferent to the plight of the 'have nots' who have fallen by the wayside in our mother land that we have left behind. Time has now come to redeem our debt.

How can I help SAVE?

Answer: By supporting our projects, spreading the news of SAVE's activities and by donating to our work, either by a one-off donation of by taking out a standing order. Donations can be made to specific projects, to particular areas of activity in a particular state, or to a specific South Asian country.
